Background
Generally speaking, two types of antibiotics can be used: bacteriostatic vs. bacteriocidal.
Bacteriostatic antibiotics do not kill the bacteria- their mode of action is to prevent the bacteria from growing or reproducing. Once the agent is removed, bacterial growth may resume. Bacteriocidal antibiotics function by killing the bacteria.
